Spring = Insects

Spring has come and the weather has been wonderful. Unfortunately I have had a rough spring. I lost my dog, Edison, to cancer. He was going to turn 9 years old in July. We had rescued him from euthanasia at a local shelter when he was just a puppy. He gave us an immeasurable amount of joy and I hope we were able to provide him with the same. It has been extremely hard on me and I have spent the last week and a half pretty much laying in bed. I hope to get back out into the garden soon and find some of my little friends hanging about. We planted a Salvia plant in memory of Edison, and I hope some insects can enjoy it, too. These few pictures were taken a few weeks ago. On that day I saw a handful of grasshoppers hanging around the kangaroo paws, which are just starting to get ready to bloom.

This post is a couple months late. At the start of April, I started to see the insects coming out and the best time for me to really find insects is when I start to weed and trim the plants. Mid April, I did just that and came across two beautiful grasshoppers. It’s nice to have the warm weather back and it’s nice to have the insects back!

Baby Grasshopper

Our Kangaroo Paws seem to be the best plants we could have ever planted to attract a wide variety of insects. I usually can go out and just start looking through them and come across someone hanging out. Well on this day I got a treat of the cutest little baby Grasshopper and in the neighboring Kangaroo Paw an older Grasshopper, too.
